FAQ

Wool swimwear

Can you wear a wool bikini in the sauna?

Yes, wool swimwear is especially good in the sauna.
Merino wool breathes well and feels natural against the skin. Many people love it when switching between the sauna and cold water.

Can you swim in wool swimwear in summer?

Yes, you can.
Wool swimwear isn’t just for ice bathing and winter. Many people wear a wool bikini in summer too, especially by the sea, on the rocks, after the sauna or on days when the air is warm but the water is still fresh. Merino wool feels different from regular swimwear. A little softer and cosier. And for many, it makes the whole swimming experience more comfortable.

Can you wear wool swimwear in chlorinated water?

We mainly recommend wool swimwear for the sea, lakes, mountain lakes, the sauna and cold water.
Chlorine can be harsh on natural materials over time.

The odd swim in a pool is usually fine, but we don’t recommend wearing your wool bikini regularly in chlorinated pools. Rinse it well in clean water afterwards and leave it to dry flat.

Does wool swimwear keep you warm in cold water?

Not warm in the same way as clothes on land.
But many people find that wool feels cosier and softer than regular swimwear, especially when you get out of the water.

Cold water is still cold.
But the experience can feel calmer.

Does wool swimwear dry as quickly as regular swimwear?

No, wool doesn’t dry the same way as synthetic swimwear.
Merino wool holds on to more moisture, but that is also part of why the material feels different.

Is wool swimwear itchy?

Merino wool is much softer than traditional wool.
Most people find it comfortable against the skin. If you are very sensitive to wool, it’s a good idea to see what works for you.

Neoprene

Do I need both socks and gloves for ice bathing?

Answer: You don’t have to wear both socks and gloves, but many people find the combination makes ice bathing more comfortable. Feet and hands often lose heat quickly in cold water, which is why neoprene socks and neoprene gloves can be especially useful for beginners, winter swimmers and anyone who swims all year round.

Why use 5 mm neoprene for ice bathing?

Answer: 5 mm neoprene provides good insulation against cold water and helps your feet and hands hold on to their warmth. The thickness also gives extra comfort and protection against stones, shells, jetties and cold surfaces. For winter swimming, 5 mm is a good choice because it is warmer than thinner neoprene.

Size and fit

What size should I choose in a wool bikini, wool swimsuit or wool swim shorts?

Choose the size you normally wear in swimwear.
If you are between two sizes, we usually recommend sizing up.

Wool swimwear should fit snugly, but not feel too tight.

Getting started with ice bathing

What should I bring for my first winter swim?

Answer: For your first winter swim, we recommend bringing swimwear, a towel, neoprene socks, neoprene gloves, a beanie and warm clothes for afterwards. A changing poncho is also really handy, as it makes it easier to get changed and stay warm after your swim. Take it slowly, swim with others and make sure you can easily get out of the water again.

Which Iceme product is best for me as an ice bathing beginner?

Answer: If you are new to ice bathing, we recommend starting with neoprene socks and neoprene gloves. Feet and hands are often the first to get cold, and the right protection can make it easier to have a good, safe experience in cold water. A warm changing poncho is also handy after your swim, so you can quickly put on something dry and warm.

Washing and care

How should I wash my wool swimwear?

Rinse your wool swimwear in clean water after use, especially after salt water or chlorine.
Wash gently with wool detergent when needed.

Do not use fabric softener.
Leave the garment to dry flat.

About Iceme

Can the products be used all year round?

Answer: Yes, Iceme products are made for year-round swimming. Neoprene socks and neoprene gloves are useful in winter, spring, autumn and on cool summer days. They protect against cold temperatures, slippery surfaces and uneven swimming spots. That makes the products just as well suited to ice bathing, morning dips, the sauna, sea swimming and outdoor life all year round.

Exchanges and Returns

Can I exchange for a different size if the swimwear doesn’t fit?

Answer: Yes. If the size doesn’t fit, you can exchange it for another size as long as the swimwear is unworn and the hygiene liner is still in place.

We recommend trying the swimwear on carefully over your underwear the first time. That way, we can help you with an exchange if the size isn’t right.

If you have any questions about sizing before you order, we’re happy to help.

Ice bathing: how long should you really stay in the water?

Many people think they need to stay in the water for a long time to get the health benefits. But according to Therese, the most important part happens right at the start. When the cold hits your skin, the natural gasp comes and your cold receptors are activated.
